I’m horrified that the City Council in Berkeley allows this travisty to exist with the horrible treatment of our Marines. Don’t they know that if they weren’t over there defending our country that the jerk terrorists would be right here in our country to kill us all. Then Code Pink would be Code Red from the blood. Terrorism is the next thing to come to our country, although we have already lost 3,000 people to it in the 911 tragedy. For many, many years as a CAL grad (’60), my family and I have traveled to Berkeley for a lot of CAL games. With that, we would have lunch, and/or dinner at a restuarant nearby to the campus. Not any more. I will buy game tickets, but nothing else … absolutely nothing else on these game days. I will encourage my many CAL friends and fraternity brothers to do the same. It might not seem like a lot… but at least it will not support the sales taxes that the city of Berkeley receives.

BTW, please… please, everyone reading this note. Lets not call the campus Berkeley any longer!! It gives a bad name to a wonderful university that should not reflect the image of the city of Berkeley.

Find it in your heart to admit you were wrong and apologize. We will not be bringing any financial support to the city of Berkeley in anyway shape or form and I hope others will boycott you as well.

While it is distubing to veterans to see American citizens acting up against our great Nation it is their right as a citizen to speak out without fear from legal persecution. This right was gained and is now protected by the Armed Forces of the United States. As a citizen you have this right and no police force will arrest you for doing so but if you really feel as strongly in your opinion as you say you do try expressing your opinions somewhere your rights are not protected. I think it is treason to have City officials support the efforts to have U.S. Recruting offices defiled in the name of “peace”. How do terrorist activities show support? Anybody found undermining the Governments attempt to defend our counrty should be put in jail and prosacuted for treason. Running a recruting office out of town, bombing an office in New York are not the way I see any patriototic americans acting. I believe that type of thinking is no less terrorist than flying planes into our buildings.

I was stationed at Hamilton AFB in the mid-1960s and remember well the unruly treatment of ROTC faculty and cadets at UCB. So nothing has really changed except that the local government has now sided with the likes of Code Pink. They are inviting another bombing of government buildings, this time in their own backyard. Berkeley - wake up to the real enemy who applauds your insanity.

People who don’t support our troops need not call themselves Americans. If they know their history, they would realize if it wasn’t for all of the “troops” throughout our nation’s past they wouldn’t have the right to even voice their opinion. How ignorant can people be. Perhaps they should try living in a country where they don’t have those freedoms that have been fought for and see if it makes them gain a new respect for the U. S. and its troops.

For myself, I owe alot to these men and women. I don’t have to worry about being bombed when I go to the mall or the grocery or just down the street. They are stopping most of the idiots before they come over here. And yes, my son is in Iraq at this moment and it was totally his decision and he took 3 years to make it. He wants to fight to protect his country and his family. He states the people there who just want normal lives like everyone else are so greatful to the soldiers it is unbelievable.

Thank you Jamie for keeping the Berkeley / Marine Corps issue in the news. Fox News is the only major news network that has covered Berkeley with any detail, and I appreciate that.

What to do about Berkeley?

I’m hoping that on your show, The Colby Files, you will invite a discussion of legal experts to explore litigation against the Berkeley City Council and Code Pink and other anti-military organizations.

The Berkeley Council and protesters are in clear violation of several provisions in 18 USC Chapter 115 - TREASON, SEDITION, AND SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES. 18 USC Sec. 2388 “Activities affecting armed forces during war” is a good place to start, and other sections apply.

Additionally, a case can be made that the Berkeley Council and anti-military protesters are in violation of several Berkeley Municipal Codes that are routinely unenforced by local law enforcement. Look specifically at Sections 13.36 and 13.44, although other portiions do apply.

This would be just a beginning of the discussion.

I’m highly disturbed that the Federal Government (U.S. Marshall, FBI, Department of Justice, etc) has yet to crack down on Berkeley City Council and Code Pink protesters for thier lawlessness.

Perhaps with your assistance, Jamie, we can get these legal questions answered. I do realize the Presidential election is dominating the news, but the election isn’t until November and that leaves a lot of time for more mischief from Berkeley and Code Pink. They need to be put on notice and stopped.

I think that the actions and comments of the Berkley City officials is a disgrace to the United States of America and all that we stand for. If they want to stand behind groups like Code Pink and other anti American Groups then let them do that. But do not ask for government funding from the citizens of a country that they regularly bash. My apologies if this borders on offending religious or opposing personal beliefs. Just an attempt to open a few eyes.

The city council in Berkeley has acted in an inexcusible manner. I think they should apologize for and rescind all of their actions and then be forced to step down from their public positions. I also believe that the government should move ahead with their plans to strip out the federal funding that was earmarked for the city, regardless of whether the council apologizes or not. This is a serious matter that requires swift action. What they have done is a disgrace to every American, especially our troops who are fighting and dying for our freedoms. Shame on you Berkeley! Shame on your Code Pink!

Since the Viet Nam war, Berkeley has not been a place where the military has been welcome. I can’t help but wonder what would happen if the National Guard was needed in Berkeley. If there was a disaster and the governor needed to call on the National Guard I have a couple of questions. Would the citizens of Berkeley who currently oppose the military welcome the assistance? Would the National Guard be willing to go someplace where they “are not welcome”? I have a lot of spiteful thoughts about Berkeley, but try to moderate or tame them. I was born and raised in California. I lived there from 1964 until 1985. I married a career military man in 1984 and have only been to California to visit since moving out in 1985. Not everyone has the options available that I had. I guess I would say use your vote and get rid of the fools who are opposed to the military until they need them.

I am saddened and angered at the mood and stance of the City of BEZERKLEY at this point and time with regard to denying the US Marine Corps their First Amendment Right of conducting their everyday business without harrassment and public policy and statement against them. Unfortunately this is a long standing type of attitude from this nauseating city government which is well known. I hope that lawmakers and the powers to be make good in withdrawing government funds at all levels from this shameful City of BEZERKLEY !

The city council should be run out of town and all military suport taken away from Berk. and all money from the gov.(tax payers) taken away and never returned to the city.
If all military spending was removed from California at once the people would change their minds quick.
In 1950 the town of Faithville N.C. was put off limits for the army and less than 30 days the towns folks had a change of heart real fast when most of the busness went broke. I think this kind of action is in order now for Berkeley, calif. and maybe the whole state.

Regardless of my own personnel feels of how wrong Berkley’s city councils actions are the fact remains that the citizens of Berkley have the constitutional right to protest the recruiters office being there, a point that must be given to the city of Berkley. What is sad though is that it’s the service members that protect that constitutional right for the city of Berkley and this is how they are treated in return. On the other side of the story is that the constitutional rights of the citizens who want the recruiter office to be there are being trampled on. For the sense of reason and fairness to both sides a compromise should be reached. Now if that can not be done then the state of California should act on the issue and tell the Berkley city council to go to hell and post National guard outside the recruiters office on a 24 hour rotation with humvee’s and guard posts at each corner of the building until further notice to remind them that freedoms are not “free” and just how good they got it.

As a son of a Vietnam Vet I am sorely disappointed in what Code Pink and others are doing to our Military. They say they support our military but in all actually they don’t and never will.

Do you honestly think that if we get rid of all of our troops, disarm, and hold peace signs in the air all day long, that we would really be better off? I hope you seriously think about this. Believe me, you don’t want to get the chance to find out. Don’t do something you will regret in the long run. Support our troops. They are giving themselves, sacrificing everything, even their lives! Don’t stomp that in the dirt or throw it back in their face. But, even if you do, that is your right, thanks to them! GOD BLESS AND PROTECT OUR TROOPS!!! And, if any soldiers or their families see this, THANK YOU! There are people who appreciate you and want to encourage you. I promise to teach my children how great you are, and what you are doing for them.

My heart is heavy….I have a son and grandson in the U.S. Navy, another grandson in Bootcamp in the USMC in San Diego, a granddaughter in her Knob yr. at the Citadel, wanting to be a Marine. My grandfather served WWI, my dad and uncles WWII, my uncle Korea, my brother Vietnam as far as I know they ALL volunteered. I am so proud of my country, and proud to be an American. I do not understand the thinking of people like these. Does not every American have the right to choose, to be domestic, civil or to serve the greatest country on the planet. I am outraged by the council’s attitude and lack of respect for those who serve and wish to serve in the all volunteer military. These brave men and women protect us with their lives and deserve nothing less than respect and the freedom they allow us to enjoy.

If this country is attacked they are sworn to defend even Berkeley even though these council members don’t desrve their protection after this outrageous stand they have taken. I am sickened by their comments.

I have urged both Senator McCain and Senator Kyl to support the Semper Fi Act of 2008. All loyal americans should get behind this effort to bring justice to our military men and women.

The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a companion bill in the House of Representatives and I will be writing my Representatives to suppor that one as well.

I strongly object to any of our tax dollars going to either the city of Berkeley or Berkeley University when they are such avid haters of our military men and women.
I have also asked them not to let Speaker Pelosi and her comrade Reid prevent this from coming to a vote. When it does come up I urged them to rally all of their fellow Republicans to make sure it passes.

I wrote to the Berkeley City ‘Council’ and Code Pink and told them that our family and community is disgusted with their anti-American and suicidal pacifism.
Berkeley has been rotting since the hippies (who have taken over the city ‘gov’t') infested and destroyed it in the late 60’s; it’s time to begin the CLEAN UP of that once fair city and all the other bastions of leftist lunacy! It’s up to every American patriot to speak up with one clear voice so that the heroes and heroines of this great country will not have served and/or died in vain.
I agree with the other posters and can only add that we will not rest until justice is served.

This is America! where our rights and freedoms are being protected by our BRAVE Military Servicmembers. I do not appreciate people who condemn them and yet live thier life so peacefully (free of war and terrorism) in this country; honestly, if you think there is a better place in the world for you, I urge you to move there, we do not need or want you here! What is going to take for people to realize we would not be free in the greatest country on this earth if it were not for our Military and the Brave men and women who serve everyone else.

My best guess is that in the last 30(?) years our United (not as much as we should be) States Armed forces hasa been an ALL VOLUNTEER force. From 1985-2005 I was a member of the Armed Forces OUT OF CHOICE. When my first enlistment expired I reenlisted OUT OF CHOICE. I WANTED to reenlist. Men and women are joining out of CHOICE, our armed forces is an ALL VOLUNTEER FORCE. I can fully understand USC Berkely’s bone of contention if there was a draft in progress. What’s the problem?
I am asking for someone from FOX news without giving my email adress to be a go between. Ask them (key word ask) what’s wrong, NO ONE is being drafted, why are you acting like there is a draft? I can fully appreciate your anger if there was a draft. Define the word “ask”? Since they are liberals I do not expect a direct answer, but I ask YOU to try to get a direct amswer then try to get back to me.

Your total ignorance of what is happening in the middle east right now is almost unbeleivable. I realize that all you do is listen to what you are told, but seriously, you need to get some new sources of information.

Our sons and daughters are doing a tremendous and honorable thing right now, and the fact that you dishonor them for it shows a total lack of character and judgement on your part.

I respectfully ask you to step down from your position of authority due to your obvious lack of judgment. This city needs leadership that can make intelligent and informed decisions based on fact and not just a bunch of political rhetoric. Of course I don’t expect you to actually step down, it is kind of like talking to a pervert about perverts - they don’t realize that they are one. Because of this, I believe that you will stand tall and continue to spread your stupidity thinking that you are in the right and never taking the time to find out how wrong you really are.

I cheered out loud when I read that companies have started pulling their money out of Berkley investments. If the city counsel will not support the troops, then they cannot and should not expect support from those of us who appreciate the freedoms that our armed service won for us with their blood. We patriots must band together, or those who would give our country away will do just that, and we will go along for the ride if we do not stand together and refuse to let that happen.

My son is a Marine, and I can guarantee you that there is NOTHING that Berkley has to offer that makes me want to come and spend my money there; no tourist event or historic sight. I wouldn’t buy a pack of gum in a convenience store in Berkley.

I just want to take a moment to applaud the efforts of Move America Forward as well as every other organization involved. I was in the Army and am now an Army wife and I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the support of our fellow Americans. The incidents in Berkeley make me ill but knowing so many are fighting to get the Berkeley City Council to apologize for their idiocy makes all of our sacrifices feel worthwhile! Thank you!

I am the mother of an Air Force SSGT. She is just back from her third deployment in this war. I worry myself sick while she’s gone,and take care of my grandson for her, while hoping and praying he doesn’t become an orphan. To those of you in Berkeley and around the country who say that they support the troops but not the war…try to remember reality. President Bush did not start the Iraq war on a whim. Intelligence agencies around the world provided many leaders with the same information. it is all very well to say he lied to us, but your elected officials in Congress read the same reports and voted for this war. to say that Berkeley’s actions were because recruiters lie to get kids to join is almost funny, since I haven’t heard of a great protest from the city about it’s own elected officials and their campaign fibs, or an outcry against college professors and teachers who teach revisionist history to their kids. Where is the outrage for the employers, friends, teachers etc who change the facts? Just the military? Perhaps if you had raised your children to believe there is something more important than themselves, or about community service or even to stand up for people who cannot stand up for themselves, they would have volunteered to serve their country. As for your support for our troops, funny… in all the time my daughter spent there she never did get that Care Package you sent or the letters telling her how much you care. Our soldiers don’t want your kind of support. They would like the kind that says even if we dont agree with why you are there, we thought you might need these items or these words of support and encouragement or even just a we are proud of you and appreciate you. would be the first to respond if your poor excuse for an American city were to be attacked. Your thoughtless, gutless and shameful actions are a stain on all Americans. Did you read any history in school about the bravery and selflessness of those Marines that fought in the Pacific during WWII. I hope you never need the Military in your City, but I’m sure you’ll be the first one to call them when something goes wrong. If you think you brave why don’t you do something that takes real guts and go against those liberal, radical, left wing loons that run the mainstram media.

Leave the city council alone!! An empty apology is worth absolutely nothing!! It’s like trying to make a child apologize when they don’t want to nor when they don’t mean it. If the city council apologized—it would not be sincere. These people stated how they believe and what they want done. GO STRAIGHT TO THE GOVERNOR of California & the federal government and demand that ALL FUNDS BE WITHHELD from the City of Berkley. They don’t want our troops there, good deal—-then we will refuse to send them state nor federal funding. They can support themselves on their own city taxes. You can not make these people welcome our recruiting offices if they are not welcome. They have voiced their opinion, and it has not changed. It is time to go to higher officials, and get all funding removed from this town. They do not belong in America,,,and they do not deserve and help from the rest of us. I certainly do not want any of my tax money helping them.

I deeply regret your actions as they are providing aid and comfort to our enemy in this time of war. Those marines who are serving our country are protecting your rights-shame on you. Your actions are ungrateful, unpatriotic, traitorous, and even dangerous. You owe the country, your electorate, and most of all those marines an apology. This absolutely sickens me! I’m a proud Marine fiancee, and I can’t believe the way these people are treating our brave men and women, and those true American citizens that want to take the challenge of earning the title “Marine.” Those Berkley hippies make me absolutely sick, and to me, deserve no place in our country. I say we banish them, or send them to Iraq! Better yet, let’s treat them like terrorist detainees, evidently their “friends,” and have them take a little “vacation” to Guantanamo Bay!

As a wife of a Sgt in the Marines, it is disgusting that they are being so disrespected. I hope the Marines there know we are standing behind them!

I’m all for manditory 3 year enlistment for able bodied Americans, starting with the members of Berkley city council and the mayor.
That way they can cry all they want, and for good reason, on 5 mile rucks and from the push up position.
Freedom is not free, costs a lot of sweat.
When hateful people seek to kill Americans, you pay in blood and tears.
Lucky for those ungrateful bastards, all the blood is spilt over seas.

I am real proud of all those individuals and orgs that are supporting our recruiters and troops including Move America Forward, Free Republic, Gathering of Eagles, Vets for Freedom, Band of Mothers, Rolling Thunder, Eagles Up, Order of Purple Heart, Freedoms Watch, Patriot Riders and many others. GOE and FR were in front of Armed Forces Recuiters offices on 14th and L just down from the White House on 2/25 supporting our soldiers with flags flying. God Bless our Men and Women in service and their families.
